Friend,
As the 2024 legislative session came to a close, Senate Majority Leader Andy Billig announced he wouldn't be running for re-election. Representing Spokane's 3rd Legislative District, Senator Andy Billig has served as the Majority Leader since 2018.
Under Sen. Billig's leadership, the State Senate passed comprehensive laws addressing various pressing issues including climate change, gun safety, voting rights, affordable housing, reproductive rights, and tax reform. Sen. Billig has long been a champion of early childhood education and development and under his guiding hand, significantly expanded special education funding for children across the state.
Sen. Billig has been pivotal in advancing progressive legislation in Washington state after Democrats regained control of the Senate in 2018. He spearheaded initiatives to enhance voting access and transparency in elections, resulting in the adoption of measures such as same-day voter registration, automatic voter registration, and the DISCLOSE Act to combat 'dark money' influence in politics.
We'll miss Senator Billig in Olympia next year as he returns to his job as the Co- CEO of the Spokane Indians Baseball Club. Thank you for your service!
