John,

In my last email, you learned about the health risks of bottled water due to weaker regulations. If this weren’t bad enough, the plastic bottles poison the water they contain.

Bottled Water Danger #2: Microplastics and Nanoplastics

Plastic bottles can leach hormone-disrupting phthalates into drinking water, as well as tiny microplastics, which could damage organs and blood cells. Each liter of bottled water contains an average of 240,000 plastic particles.

About 90 percent of the plastics in bottled water are nanoplastics, which are as small as one-1,000th of the width of a strand of human hair. New research shows how these small particles are potentially more harmful than even microplastics for your health, being potentially small enough to enter our livers, brains, and blood — becoming more pervasive and disruptive within our bodies.

The sheer quantity of single-use plastic is magnifying this public health crisis. Microplastics and nanoplastics are being found everywhere, from our drinking water to our food and even in the air we breathe.

When you become a monthly giving Partner today, you’ll power the fight to stop the plastics crisis. Your contribution will be matched $2-to-$1 to power our work to break free from plastics.
