It’s not often that our team sends emails about sports, John. But this year’s NCAA women’s tournament was a different story. Here’s why we’re so excited about college basketball:
Women’s basketball is receiving more attention now than ever. At a time in history when women are being told what they can and cannot do with their bodies, the success of these young, diverse women and recognition of their talents feels like a huge win. It’s also a reminder to keep going, especially as many of these players have spent their entire lives training to play a sport that pays women a fraction of their male counterparts.
From protecting abortion access to equal pay, it’s critical that Congress passes legislation that decreases gender disparity so that improvements are made across all industries.
Here’s the thing: none of this legislation can pass while the Republicans have a majority in the House, but luckily, they are working with slim margins. We have a real chance to flip the House in November, and we are going to do it by electing the pro-choice Democratic moms.
There are more glass ceilings to break on the court and in politics, but none of this can happen without supporters like you. This tournament was a reminder of how much has been accomplished for equality, and how much work there is left to do.
