John, can I talk to you about something?
It's Jeanna Repass, the Chair of the Kansas Dems. First, thank you to everyone who helped us reach our major online goal at the end of March. Your support is crucial to our work.
Now, in my role, I'm always thinking about what's next for our Party in Kansas. Not just what's in the short-term, like how many folks we will continue to need to chip in to help Democrats win in the 2024 election [[link removed]] , but in the long run: setting up our purple state to go blue.
The truth is, John, we have to work 10 times harder than Republicans to win our elections.
In 2022, we were just a few thousand votes away from electing a governor who ignored the will of the people, tore down our democracy, and led with fear and extremism. We lost as many seats as we flipped in the state legislature. The legislature redrew the congressional lines to make it harder for her, but Representative Sharice Davids still won reelection.
The far-right Supermajorities in both chambers, along with Kansas's extremist Attorney General, 3 conservative Congressmen, and their deep-pocketed donors are working hard to stop us from being successful at every turn.
We re-elected Governor Kelly in 2022 and won local school board and county commission seats across the state in 2023. Now, we're laying the groundwork to finally BREAK the Republican Supermajorities in our Legislature this year.
But it’s going to take a strong team working with volunteers on the ground, building relationships and growing our coalition, and supporting our campaigns early and throughout the year to be successful again.
John, the Kansas Dems were critical to the state's recent electoral successes, and we'll be even more important as the far-right continues to push the bounds of our democracy. I want to make sure we have the resources to continue winning elections in the future, and it starts with building out our operations now. Would you please chip in to support our work, help us win this fall, and win for years to come? [[link removed]]
