"April 2024"
Service Changes Coming Sunday, May 5
Bus at SPSCC
Our upcoming service change is another step forward in our effort to restore fixed-route bus service to our pre-pandemic level of service. Beginning Sunday, May 5, 2024, Route 620 will have trips added to weekday schedules and adjustments will be made to several routes to keep buses moving and get you where you need to go on time. Once effective, these changes increase service to approximately 90.4 percent of our pre-pandemic service levels.
*Service Details*
* Time adjustments made to both weekday and weekend schedules on Routes 12, 41, 45, 48, 60, 64, 65, 67, and 68 to improve on-time performance.
* Time adjustments made to Route 42 weekday schedules.
* Trips added to Route 620 weekday schedules to increase frequency.
* Time adjustments made to Route 620 weekday and weekend schedules to improve connections with other regional systems in Pierce County.
We continue to work toward providing more bus service as we're able to. Adding service requires having enough bus drivers available to drive.

Celebrate Earth Day on April 22
Earth Day Graphic
Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the modern environmental movement that began in 1970. It's a day meant to increase awareness of environmental issues. There are many ways to celebrate, but we encourage you to ride the bus, ride your bicycle, carpool, vanpool, or walk instead of driving.
Did you know that one of the best ways you can help protect the environment is to drive less? Every trip counts! You'll reduce your energy use, pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
Public transportation is a cornerstone of community vitality, sustainability and environmental stewardship. Intercity Transit is committed to lowering our environmental impact with our commitment to sustainable practices.
We have made many fuel and vehicle choices over the years to reduce our emissions. In 2022, we started working with the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) to develop a long-term, zero-emission fleet transition plan. Zero-emission vehicles include hydrogen fuel cell electric and battery electric buses. In 2023, we purchased 28 propane Dial-A-Lift vehicles that replaced aging diesel Dial-A-Lift vans. The new propane vans produce lower emissions of harmful air pollutants and greenhouse gases compared to gas or diesel vehicles.
In addition, we worked with CTE in 2023 to complete the first step in analyzing the costs and other impacts of transitioning to a zero-emission fleet and have begun working on the next steps in the process, including creating a formal zero-emissions fleet transition plan.
