Today, a total solar eclipse will take place across North America and will be visible across the country.

As the former NASA Chief of Staff under President Obama, these eclipses aren’t just an awe-inspiring sight to behold, they are important moments for our science community to learn more about the nature of the universe. In fact, an experiment during a solar eclipse in 1919 helped prove Albert Einstein’s theory of General Relativity!

My wife Loretta and I have spent years educating our community about space, and this eclipse will be a historic event you don’t want to miss out on. I have been lucky enough to have seen two solar eclipses, and they are amazing. Even more, today’s eclipse is an opportunity for the entire country to be united through a shared inspiring experience, and to encourage interest in science and the natural world.
