When last month began, I was gearing up for a busy month of travel across the state to meet voters and spread our message for change. I could have never imagined we’d be where we are today. These are difficult and scary times, but I also see so many reasons to be grateful.

I’m grateful for you, our grassroots team. Your faith in our movement never wavered. So many of you opened our emails, followed us on social media, and reached out with words of encouragement. When we asked you to dig deep and make a financial commitment if you were able, your support helped us exceed our FEC fundraising goal so we can continue our campaign for change.

I’m grateful for my staff and volunteers who got creative and quickly helped us pivot to a virtual campaign. We’ve used our platform to provide folks with information and resources, and our vast network of volunteers made 1,600 wellness calls to make sure people are staying safe and receiving the help they need. We are receiving national attention as a model for how campaigns across the country can be of service to their communities during this public health crisis.

I’m grateful for the continued efforts of the doctors, nurses and all health care workers in Alaska and around the world who are working day and night on the front lines of this pandemic, risking their own lives to treat as many people as possible and keep our communities safe. Their sacrifice is nothing short of heroic.

I am grateful that my family is safe and healthy, and that I’m enjoying some unexpected quality time with them, which can be in short supply during a campaign. I know being cooped up isn’t easy, but I hope everyone is making memories with their families while in isolation, and using this time to reconnect with loved ones from a distance. I know we will get through this together.
