All the ballots have been counted, and I’m honored to be one of the two finalists for the job of Mayor of San Diego. But I am sobered by what lies ahead.
We are entering uncharted waters, and more than ever, our City needs competent, experienced, and independent leadership to navigate the challenges we face.
In the short-term, our City faces devastating impacts on the budget as a result of crisis-related economic disruptions and potential threats to basic municipal services. As chair of the City Council budget committee, I will make sure that the process is transparent, accountable and compassionate. Your voice will be heard.
On a personal level, my heart goes out to San Diegans dealing with COVID-19, including those who have fallen ill, the healthcare workers and our first responders who are on the frontlines.
But on a daily basis, we see random acts of kindness and cause for optimism — neighbors arranging for a socially-distanced birthday party, a librarian reading books at the end of the driveway, and families delivering food to quarantined individuals. This is the resilient San Diego that we can draw on to overcome our challenges and discover new ways to improve our future.
Together, we defied the odds in the primary, and together, we can do it again in November. But we will need your help, particularly since this new campaign environment is going to offer many challenges. And so, we will be heavily relying on the support of you and our Neighborhood Captains. We are already preparing a virtual ground game that will engage voters and get our message out.
For those of you who are able and willing, here are 5 (Socially Distanced) Ways to Support our campaign that will make a difference on November 3.
Stay safe, and please reach out if I can be helpful.
