As many as 94 million people across the country drink water contaminated with toxic PFAS chemicals.

This daily exposure to PFAS — known as “forever chemicals” because they are extremely resistant to breaking down in the environment — has been linked to a long list of health effects, including cancer.

The EPA proposed limiting the levels of six PFAS chemicals in drinking water last year — a huge win for safe drinking water and our public health. NRDC activists sent 17,433 comments to the EPA in support of the new standards — now, it's time for us to finish the job.

Now the EPA is about to issue the final standards — urge them to quickly and equitably enact strong measures to get toxic PFAS chemicals out of our water.

The EPA has released its final of clean car and heavy-duty truck standards. The clean car standards will cut carbon emissions and other tailpipe pollutants starting in 2027 – as well as deliver major carbon reductions, save drivers money on fuel and maintenance, and reduce asthma attacks, heart disease, and other illnesses.

But the heavy-duty vehicles rule does not go far enough in cutting carbon emissions, and is a big example of how the work is just beginning to clean up one of the nation’s most polluting sectors.
