Hate overdraft fees? So does Rob. In 2022 alone, consumers across the
country paid $7.7 BILLION in overdraft fees to banks.
Rob believes these fees are a relic of the past, which is why he just
joined 17 attorneys general in submitting a comment letter supporting the
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) proposed overdraft fee rule.
This rule would close the current loophole that allows banks to get away
with charging these exorbitant fees without disclosing basic credit terms
to their customers.
Right now, the typical overdraft fee is $35 and is usually paid back
within three days — that constitutes a 17,000% annual percentage rate
(APR), which is outrageous. In their letter, Rob and other attorneys
general are requesting the CFPB set the benchmark overdraft fee to just
$3.
