Thursday's News Round-up Global coronavirus cases now exceed 1 million, with more than 51,000 deaths. Roughly 6.6 million Americans filed first-time claims for unemployment benefits last week, a 3,000% increase since early March. About 10 million jobs have vanished in that time. Americans who filed their tax returns by mail rather than online may have to wait 20 weeks to receive government stimulus checks, administration officials have told lawmakers. Some states are forcing businesses deemed non-essential to close their doors, as previous orders had instructed. The Democratic Party has postponed its presidential nominating convention in Milwaukee to Aug. 17 (instead of July). | |
