John,
Republicans successfully worked for decades to overturn Roe v. Wade, stacking the courts with Christian nationalist judges and eventually packing the Supreme Court with enough Justices to deliver the final blow to reproductive rights.
Feeling bullish after their Dobbs victory in 2022, Christian nationalists have now taken over the mainstream of the GOP and are calling the shots as they seek yet even more control over women’s rights and autonomy: taking away women's right to vote.
This may seem like a remote, unlikely possibility, but this time around the extremists running the Christian nationalist agenda aren’t trying to hide their intentions. The GOP Gubernatorial nominee in North Carolina has said that women shouldn’t have the right to vote. I have seen several videos of influential right wing men repeating this same rhetoric just last week.
They have hijacked the Christian faith and have given new meanings to Bible scriptures. We need to take this seriously. (To top it off, Trump just came out with a brand new grift: selling his own line of Bibles for $59.99! It's reprehensible and truly unbelievable.)
We know they have friends in high places: Jim Jordan, who feigns Christian piety to wield power as a weapon, and House Speaker Mike Johnson—a man who has said that he was appointed by God to act as a “Moses.”
But where they are leading us isn’t the promised land; it’s a century backward when women were the chattel property of men.
