It was a busy week, but I’m back to keep you in the loop on how I am fighting for our conservative values. Administrative errors should never infringe upon the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. Unfortunately, that’s the case for 7,471 individuals who were wrongfully denied a firearm because of an error in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. While previous legislation requires the FBI to process appeals for these individuals, there is currently no private right of action to enforce this requirement. That’s why I am joining Majority Whip Tom Emmer as a co-sponsor on his Firearm Due Process Protection Act. This provides Americans with the ability to seek a court judgment to correct invalid information if the FBI does not act on an appeal within the two-month deadline. Additionally, the legislation increases congressional oversight by requiring annual reporting of statistics regarding the total number and nature of appeals to Congress. Our Second Amendment rights are non-negotiable. This bill is not just about firearms; it's about securing our freedoms and holding the government accountable. I am proud to be a part of it. If you haven’t heard, Senate Democrats plan to dismiss the impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Their dismissal is a national embarrassment and a blatant betrayal of the American people's trust. I voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas not once, but twice. He has categorically failed to enforce our immigration laws, willfully creating the greatest border crisis our country has ever seen and exposing our communities to violence and drugs. We fully expected the Senate to expeditiously bring his impeachment to trial, just as Democrats did for President Trump (on two sham occasions) when the House passed it. This dismissal is nothing more than a political move by Democrats to help one of their own escape justice. |
