Local officials (like county commissioners!) have a direct impact on our day-to-day lives. We set the annual budget and property tax rates, control county services and ordinances, and create economic development plans – all of which affect our daily lives and our futures.

Since I was elected as County Commissioner, our Board has raised the minimum wage for county employees, expanded affordable housing, and provided relief to low-income families. We’ve moved our community forward towards a brighter future.

But this isn’t the case across North Carolina. Many local communities are struggling, and they need bold, progressive leadership in their local government to move them in the right direction, John.

Electing a slate of true progressives to local seats can’t wait, because progress can’t wait.

That’s why I’m turning my attention to electing other progressives to local offices across North Carolina, so we can bring the same progress we’ve made in Durham to communities across the state.

John, this work will require significant resources, and we need to start investing in these races NOW before it’s too late. But the future of local communities depends on your support.
