John:
I wanted you to be the first to hear the big news: I’m launching my campaign for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.
I’d like to tell you my story, and ask you to chip in to my campaign for a better future for Wisconsin and our country.
I grew up in northeast Wisconsin, in a working class family where too often, we struggled.
As a kid, I would never have dreamed of running for office – though I always wanted to serve my community. I’ve been practicing medicine for years, focusing on women’s health and reproductive care, while working particularly in underserved communities.
But today, I’m not practicing in the Green Bay area, where I grew up and where I live. Thanks first to the harsh restrictions on abortion care in Wisconsin that were passed in 1849 – before women could even vote – and then to the threat of retaliation from Republicans after I helped overturn those restrictions I travel to Minnesota every month, and also travel to Arizona to continue to care for patients who need it most.
Those long commutes have given me plenty of time to think about where we’re at as a state, and as a country. I’ve spent a lot of time talking with my neighbors, fellow doctors, and folks all across our community about the challenges we’re facing. Our healthcare system is in crisis. Doctors and nurses are leaving the field in droves. There’s confusion about how we can care for our patients under new restrictions that are a direct result of Dobbs. And it all goes back to the division that too many politicians have sown in recent years.
I’m running for office to do something about it.
We have a real opportunity to flip this open seat, put an end to the divisiveness, and pass policies that help families in northeast Wisconsin – and every corner of the country. From expanding rural broadband access to implementing a social safety net that catches struggling families, we’ve got a lot of work to do. It won’t be easy. But most things worth doing aren’t easy.
I’m running for Congress to make a difference, and I’m asking for your support. If you’re with me, I hope you’ll chip in $5 or more to my campaign.
