This week, Governor Walz visited a Minneapolis Veterans Home to highlight his 2024 Infrastructure Plan. Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan also visited a State Patrol office to highlight the plan.
“The men and women who serve our country deserve the best care our state can provide,” said Governor Walz. “This project is an important part of our ambitious effort to invest in infrastructure across our state – from clean water, to safe streets, to the facilities that serve our veterans and State Patrol.”
The Minneapolis Veterans Home is one of 12 homes comprised of over six dozen buildings, many of which require upgrades. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor's bonding proposal calls for $12.8 million in general asset preservation and $16 million for remodeling.
"This year, we put together an infrastructure plan that invests in the fundamentals – including safer streets for communities across the state. A new State Patrol Headquarters is an important piece of that plan. Let’s get it done," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.
In addition to the Minneapolis Veterans Homes, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor's bonding recommendations include $22.5 million to update Minnesota’s State Patrol Headquarters. The State Patrol is currently spread across six locations in multiple counties, and facilities lack adequate evidence storage, secure areas, and basic space and equipment.
Governor Walz announced Minnesota has submitted three proposals for funding through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) program. The program, created through the Inflation Reduction Act, will distribute $4.6 billion in competitive grants for states, local governments, and Tribes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollution.
“Acting on climate change is critical not only to protect our lakes, rivers, and great outdoors, but also for Minnesotans’ health and economic future,” said Governor Walz. “This funding will reduce climate pollution, lower energy bills, create jobs, improve our health and air quality, reduce hunger, and ultimately ensure Minnesota remains a great place to raise a family for generations to come.”
On Wednesday, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan attended Action Day at the Capitol for Crime Victim Services Funding.
"This session, our administration is pushing to provide additional funding for crime victim services and supports. For the health and safety of survivors, their children, and communities across Minnesota, we need to get it done," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.
Last week, Governor Walz broke ground on a new project to construct an underpass at 11th Street in Moorhead. The project was made possible by significant state, federal, and local partnerships, including $134 million from the state.
"The 11th Street Underpass project in Moorhead is officially underway. I’ve said it before: We’re ushering in a golden age for infrastructure in Minnesota," said Governor Walz.
