The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 118th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.

Celebrating Easter

Happy Easter from my family to yours. I hope you had a restful weekend celebrating Jesus Christ’s resurrection.

He is risen!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

House to Deliver Mayorkas Impeachment Articles to the Senate Next Week

The House will be transmitting articles of impeachment against Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate next Wednesday, April 10.

The House passed the impeachment articles last month. We impeached Secretary Mayorkas for high crimes and misdemeanors, including his willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and his breach of public trust. Throughout Alejandro Mayorkas’s tenure as Homeland Security Secretary, he has refused to comply with the immigration laws passed by Congress. He has repeatedly lied to Americans about his role in the invasion at our southern border.

As one of Secretary Mayorkas’s impeachment managers, I will help to present the case of Mayorkas’s impeachment to the Senate should Senator Schumer allow for a trial.

Senator Schumer has a duty to the American people to hold an impeachment trial for Secretary Mayorkas. I and the ten other impeachment managers look forward to arguing our case for impeachment in the Senate.

Congress Must Repeal the FACE Act

This week, four pro-life activists were convicted of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. Their convictions mean potential prison time and fines.

Biden’s Department of Justice is weaponized against pro-life demonstrators while Black Lives Matter rioters and illegal aliens are allowed to walk freely in our nation. Those involved in propping up the DOJ’s two-tiered justice system must be held accountable.

I am a proud cosponsor of Congressman Chip Roy’s (R-TX) FACE Act Repeal Act of 2023. Congress must move forward with this important legislation to protect pro-life activists.

Rep. Roy’s bill may be read here.

Around the District

I appreciate every chance I get to step outside the DC bubble and visit with Arizonans who work every day to improve our state’s economy, create jobs, and make Arizona a better place to live. This week I visited with the great people at Z Modular and Heliae who are each helping Arizona lead the way through their innovative solutions to some of our biggest challenges.

I was pleased to visit with the team at Z Modular in Chandler to learn more about the housing, supply chain, and workforce issues we face as a state. The failure of ‘Bidenomics’ and increased state government overreach has led more Americans to move to Arizona than ever before, necessitating more affordable and multi-family housing.

Z Modular is a leader in the stacked modular housing space, and I was grateful to tour their facility to learn more about their focus on building high-quality, affordable housing that creates American jobs using American products.

The Fifth District has a rich agricultural history and our East Valley farmers have felt the effect of Arizona’s water shortage more than anyone. While we work towards important solutions on water retention and allocation, it’s critical that we also find ways to improve our crop yields and soil health.

I was impressed to learn about Heliae’s microalgae research and how biological solutions can help to improve soil makeup and water retention, ensuring our farmers can continue to grow healthy and dense crops that will keep Arizona a major driver of American agriculture.

Veterans Corner

Many of our “Fighting Fifth” District residents are veterans, their families, and caregivers. This week I was honored to speak with an incredible group of veterans at the Mariposa Gardens Veterans Coffee Hour.

These brave men and women gave so much for our freedoms and safety, and I share their deep concerns about the direction we are headed as a country. I appreciate their very informed questions about our border, the economy, and their civil liberties under the reckless Biden administration, and I encouraged them to continue making their voices heard on these important topics.

Thank you to all those who attended and to the strong veteran support community in AZ-05 that make these meetings possible!

I met with my Veterans Advisory Council to discuss solutions to the many ongoing issues with the VA. Veterans continue to experience prolonged wait times, problems with obtaining community care through the MISSON Act, and problems with ongoing and emergent mental health care under the COMPACT Act

I’m so appreciative of the expertise and experiences they share with me which better informs my work in DC on these issues. If you or a loved one are experiencing any difficulty with VA healthcare or benefits, please contact my office directly at (480) 699-8239 or visit my website.

The 30-minute documentary features footage from private ranches along the border, the Darien Gap in Panama, and interviews with members of Congress, Border Patrol, local and state law enforcement, and much more.
