Rep. Van Drew Meets with Constituents Across South Jersey

The past two weeks, I have had the privilege to meet with countless constituents across the district to engage in conversations about the real issues that are impacting them and celebrate the ways they serve their community.

As I return to Washington DC next week, I am energized and committed to fight for the priorities and concerns that matter most to you!

Rep. Van Drew Introduces the Child Tax Credit Integrity Act

Last week, I introduced the Child Tax Credit Integrity Act to help bolster the integrity of our tax system. Currently, illegal immigrants are able to take advantage of a loophole in our tax system that allows them to claim the Child Tax Credit with only an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) in place of a Social Security Number (SSN). This enables illegal immigrants to apply for the credit and costs taxpayers upwards of $3 billion a year. This bill would change the law to require a SSN to be submitted, ensuring that only lawful residents of the U.S. can access this tax credit.

Under the policies of the Biden Administration, we have seen hundreds of millions of our tax dollars be used to subsidize illegal immigrants living unlawfully within our borders. By introducing this bill, I am working to ensure that we end incentives that draw illegal immigrants to our country and ensure tax credits serve American families as intended and save taxpayers money.

Rep. Van Drew Joins Fox Business to Discuss the Collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge

Last week, I joined Fox Business to discuss the aftermath of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland on the morning of March 26th. Early Tuesday morning, the cargo ship Dali experienced mechanical issues and struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, resulting in the total collapse of the bridge and the tragic death of six construction workers. The incredible rescue and recovery efforts conducted following this event would not have been possible without the courageous men and women who quickly arrived at the scene, including the brave team from the Atlantic City Coast Guard. The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from AC was called in to assist and conducted a search pattern, and the people of South Jersey could not be more proud of their incredible efforts.

As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I will be working hard to push for legislation that ensures a disaster like this never happens again. Americans deserve a strong and safe infrastructure system and Congress must work to ensure that this system is second to none.

Rep. Van Drew Attends Quilt of Valor Ceremony for Sergeant Glen Carson

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Quilt of Valor ceremony for a South Jersey local, Sgt. Glen Carter Carson. Glen served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. Before his honorable discharge, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant E5, an incredible feat in the Marine Corps.

Surrounded by his family and friends, Glen was commended with a Vietnam veteran lapel pin, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the war, as well as a Quilt of Valor. This prestigious award is only earned by those who have dedicated their lives to serving our country. Glen has gone beyond the call of duty and his service to this great nation will never be forgotten.

Rep. Van Drew Introduces the Protect American Widows Act

This week, I introduced the Protect American Widows Act to help ease the financial burden on widows during some of their most challenging times. Currently, widows can only file taxes as a surviving spouse for two years. This timeline is simply insufficient for recovering from such a tremendous loss. That is why I introduced this bill to extend this timeline to five years.

In collaboration with a group of widows in South Jersey, I drafted this bill to grant a longer grace period, allowing our fellow Americans to get back on their feet in a more realistic timeframe.

Rep. Van Drew Joins Fox Business to Discuss the Biden Administration's EV Push

This week, I joined Fox Business to discuss the latest developments in electric vehicle (EV) mandates by the Biden Administration. As a part of his Green New Deal, President Biden has issued a new mandate for half of vocational vehicles — such as garbage and delivery trucks — and a quarter of long-haul tractor-trailers produced in 2032 to be electric-powered. These electric trucks are not yet in mass production, can only travel 70 miles before needing to be recharged, and lack the carrying capacity of their gas truck counterparts. Instead of bringing energy independence back to America, electric vehicles force us to increase our reliance on China for the rare elements that are essential to EV batteries.

So far, we have witnessed the Biden Administration issue executive orders to cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline, freeze the production of LNG, and increase regulatory burdens that jeopardize US energy security. It's time we unleash American energy to its full potential and consider energy solutions that actually work for the American consumer.
