FEDERAL (GRANT NEWMAN)
Ukraine Funding and Mayorkas Impeachment Coming Up
Congress is back next week after a two-week recess, and media reports from all over Capitol Hill suggest that Speaker Johnson is getting ready to move a bill that funds Ukraine.
As we've discussed several times in the past, Speaker Johnson has repeatedly committed to tying border security provisions in the form of the Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2) to any funding for Ukraine. So far, we haven't heard anything about immigration provisions being included, but a bill still hasn't been introduced. If you haven't already, visit your action board and make sure your Representative and Senators know you want H.R. 2 included.
Speaker Johnson also announced that the Senate will finally receive the impeachment articles for DHS Secretary Mayorkas on April 10th. There will be more in the Federal newsletter tomorrow. In the meantime, you already have an action available to demand that your Senator insist on a full and transparent trial of Secretary Mayorkas. We shouldn't let the Senate brush aside the House's impeachment.
Rep. Eli Crane Introduced the Nuclear Family Priority Act
Freshman Congressman Eli Crane (R, AZ-02) has become the new sponsor of the Nuclear Family Priority Act, H.R. 7833.
This bill is one of "Our Great Solutions" and would permanently end chain migration.
Visit the action board to encourage your Member of Congress to cosponsor the Nuclear Family Priority Act. If you live in Rep. Crane's district or your Member of Congress has already cosponsored the bill, send them a thank you message today!

A Big Win for Georgia Voters as Immigration Enforcement Bill Passes!
Savannah GOP Rep. Jesse Petrea filed the bill in January, but the recent murder of Laken Riley who was allegedly killed by Jose Antonio Ibarra, who entered the country illegally, gave the bill and the larger conversations around immigration new momentum. ( Ross Williams/Georgia Recorder)

As this year's Georgia legislative session came to a close, an excellent immigration bill passed and was sent to Governor Kemp's desk.
HB 1105, the Georgia Criminal Alien Track and Report Act of 2024, creates criminal penalties for ignoring state laws against sanctuary policies. It also requires a quarterly, public report on the number of criminal aliens in the Georgia prison system. Currently, that number is in excess of 1500 illegal aliens.
HB 1105 ensures that Georgia law enforcement officers cooperate with federal immigration authorities when illegal aliens are in custody. It also requires that jails honor ICE detainers. It penalizes local government leaders who support sanctuary policies in violation of that prohibition.
This is a huge win for Georgians. Rep. Jesse Petrea gets a tremendous amount of credit for introducing the bill, and we especially want to thank those who sent messages and made phone calls to demand that their state legislators support it.
Governor Kemp is expected to sign the bill into law (although opponents continue to advocate that he veto the bill).
SUSTAINABILITY (ROB HARDING)
Immigration-driven growth worsening America's water woes
Water is life. March 22nd marked World Water Day, providing a day to express gratitude for the water we all depend on and reflect on the pressures from pollution and overuse which threaten our local water sources' ability to sustain our communities and the broader web of life. Read Henry's article for a wellness check on America's waters and a reality check on the impact of immigration policy on the country's unsustainable water demands.
Remembering the Rockefeller Commission
Imagine a commission created by the president and Congress concluding that "no substantial benefits will result from further growth of the nation's population," and appealing to Americans to abandon their "ideological addiction to growth." The Rockefeller Commission - more formally called the Commission on Population Growth and the American Future - did just that in 1972. March 27th marked the 52nd anniversary of the Commission submitting its unprecedented report to the president and Congress. Inspired by the Commission's findings, we offer a call to action for today's leaders and citizens.

Seeing the light on immigration
April 2-8 is this year's International Dark Sky Week. It's upsetting, but dark skies have become uncommon across our nation, with about 80 percent of Americans not able to see the Milky Way. As America's population has grown, mostly due to immigration, light pollution has become one of the most pervasive forms of environmental degradation. Read Henry's article for more and tell your congressional representatives to limit chain migration by voting for the Nuclear Family Priority Act (H.R. 7833).
HIRING LINE (JEREMY BECK)
Will Biden use Baltimore's Bridge Tragedy for an Amnesty?
Here we go again. In the latest installment of a long history of mass immigration being used to satisfy employers' preference for foreign labor over Black Americans, the cheap labor lobby has responded to the tragedy of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge to call on President Biden to bypass Congress (and all American workers) to give work permits to aliens working illegally in the construction, healthcare, agriculture, and service industries.

"The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse is a moment for Biden to show concern for rebuilding a vital bridge — and for building a bridge of inclusion for Black American workers in the construction industry as well," says Professor Roger House. Black Americans make up just five percent of construction workers nationwide. Industry lobbyists aren't showing any inclination to address the gap.
As citizens our responsibility doesn't end at the voting booth. We have to stay engaged after we send our elected officials to Washington. The cheap labor lobby will not let this tragedy go to waste. We have to respond with the power of the citizen lobby to demand immigration policy that serves the national interest.

NUMBERS THAT MATTER
Foreign-born reach record high: Over 50 Million
Our friends at the Center for Immigration Studies have just released a new analysis of the latest Census Bureau Current Population Survey (CPS) data that show the total foreign-born population (legal and illegal immigrant population) reached a record high of 51.4 million in February. This staggering number puts the foreign-born percentage of the U.S. population at 15.5%. It also represents an increase of more than six million since President Biden took office, which is larger than the individual populations of 33 states! This dramatic and rapid increase in the foreign-born population impacts nearly every aspect of our lives and is a far cry from the immigration levels recommended by the Barbara Jordan led U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform.
Better immigration policy is possible. Send this message to your U.S. Representative letting them know. Thank you for all you do.
