This week in North Texas...   Irving, TX - In anticipation of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition, I wanted to share some memories from last year's competition. I'm looking forward to seeing this year's incredible submissions and encourage all high school artists in Texas-24 to submit their work by April 15th! To watch highlights from last year's competition, you can click here or on the image below. Recently, I introduced H.R. 7831, the Preventing Financial Exploitation in Higher Education Act, to hold universities accountable for raising tuition and failing to give students the tools they need to pursue higher-paying careers while allowing large percentages of their students to default on their Federal student loans. My bill will force these universities to put their own skin in the game and assume some financial responsibility for student debt burden and loan delinquencies. You can read more here or in the work of the week section. As a reminder, our 2024 North Texas U.S. Service Academy Forum is tomorrow, Saturday, April 6th. I'm excited to be co-hosting the forum again this year and encourage students, teachers, and counselors to learn more. Registration begins at 7:30 AM at Creekview High School in Carrollton. I'm excited to welcome dozens of North Texas families to Washington, D.C. next week for our first-ever Texas-24 Elementary Fly-In! Our office is looking forward to showcasing the beautiful landmarks and history of our nation's capital. If you and your family are planning a trip to Washington D.C., my office can assist with booking tours of our nation's landmarks. All tickets and tours are provided on a first-come, first-served basis so be sure to submit your request as early as possible in order to maximize your chances. We're looking forward to helping you make your trip to D.C. memorable! You can click here to request tours. Texas-24 Work of the Week I recently introduced legislation to stop universities from financially exploiting students. Universities are failing their students by offering too many worthless degrees and encouraging loans students cannot pay back, all while their multi-billion-dollar endowments grow. My bill will force universities to put their own skin in the game to end this vicious cycle. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is L.D. Bell High School’s quarterback, Maddox Olatunde, who led his team to victory over a longtime rival for the first time in 25 years. Recently, Maddox received the 2024 HEB ISD Education Foundation Award of Excellence. Congratulations, Maddox! Rep. Van Duyne in the News Watch Rep. Van Duyne on the Joe Pags Show Rep.
