Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced [ [link removed] ] the approval of 11 projects set to create 1,025 new jobs and retain 567 jobs statewide. ?

During its monthly meeting, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) reviewed economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its regional partners. The projects are expected to result in more than $65 million in new payroll and spur $523 million in investments across Ohio.??

Governor DeWine speaks to the press in Indian Lake

Governor DeWine visited Indian Lake to get an update on the cleanup process after the area was struck by tornadoes on March 14.?

Last Friday, Governor DeWine initiated [ [link removed] ] several federal and state disaster aid mechanisms, including his request [ [link removed] ] to the president for a major disaster declaration, which could bring financial relief to Ohioans affected by the severe weather incidents.

Governor DeWine convenes work group on Competency Restoration and Diversion

Governor DeWine convened [ [link removed] ] a new working group to address the increasing number of criminal justice-involved (forensic) patients being treated at Ohio?s six regional psychiatric hospitals.

Ohio?s six state-run regional psychiatric hospitals exist as a safety net for Ohioans experiencing serious mental illness and provide comprehensive in-patient care and treatment to more than 1,000 patients daily. These specialized facilities provide services for civil patients as well as those referred by criminal courts. Over time, the forensic population has steadily increased, squeezing out access and capacity of civil beds in the state hospitals. Forensic patients currently account for about 93% of the available beds (1,085).

?Nine out of 10 beds at our state psychiatric hospitals are occupied by forensic patients, which challenges our ability to keep pace with court referrals for forensic admissions,? said Governor DeWine. ?This limits our state psychiatric hospitals? ability to serve citizens with serious mental illness who are not criminal justice-involved. My hope is that through this working group we will reach a consensus around recommendations that alleviate the strain on our hospitals and ensure that Ohioans living with serious mental illness get access to the care they need to get well, be well, and stay well.?

The Governor?s Work Group on Competency Restoration and Diversion [ [link removed] ] will be chaired by Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) Director LeeAnne Cornyn.

Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Husted, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced [ [link removed] ] the availability of funding to support Ohio livestock and poultry producers with improvements and expansions to meat processing services.?

Applications for the Ohio Meat Processing Grant Program [ [link removed] ] are now available on the program webpage.??

?The need for meat processing services is significant, and it?s our job to ensure that Ohio companies have the support they need to continue to feed Ohio?s families,? said Governor DeWine. ?Not only that, but this program creates jobs and supports the future of an essential industry in Ohio.?

?The agriculture industry is critical to Ohio?s economy and we?re helping to ensure job security and food security through the meat processing grant program,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?These grants help smaller producers and processors upgrade their equipment and meet the level of productivity and efficiency they need to compete.?

Husted joined demo of Solar Eclipse Technology for Ohioans who are Blind or Low Vision in Columbus

Lt. Governor Husted traveled to Alum Creek State Park for a demonstration of technology that will enhance accessibility for Ohioans who are blind or have low vision during the April 8 total solar eclipse. The technology will be deployed at 29 Ohio Department of Natural Resources locations.?

LightSound devices offer a unique way for individuals who are blind or have low vision to experience the solar eclipse through sound. Using sonification, the device converts light intensity data into audible tones, allowing users to perceive changes as the moon eclipses the sun.

Ohio is home to approximately 275,000 people who are blind or have low vision.

Lt. Governor Husted spoke to the Warren County Chamber Alliance in Columbus about Ohio's economic climate and workforce programs to upskill employees.

Ohio EPA, along with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, will conduct [ [link removed] ] a 15-county comprehensive water study in central Ohio to gain valuable information that will help in decision-making for future growth and economic development.

??Ohio?s ability to provide clean, reliable water is what sets us apart and allows our state to bring in opportunities for economic growth,? said Governor DeWine. ?The important information we gather from this study will help us make the best decisions possible to support Ohio?s growth and ensure reliable water resources for all.?

Governor DeWine announces the state's plan of preparedness ahead of the solar eclipse.

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] that he is activating the Ohio Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to support local communities before, during, and after Monday's solar eclipse, which could draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to Ohio.

"There is no better place to experience the eclipse than in Ohio, the birthplace of aviation and the heart of aerospace," said Governor DeWine. "While we are confident that our local communities have fully prepared for the influx of spectators, having our Emergency Operations Center at the ready will allow us to immediately respond if any unexpected needs arise."

Beginning on Sunday, staff members from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Emergency Management Agency, Ohio Adjutant General's Department, Ohio Fire Marshal's Office, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and the departments of Transportation, Natural Resources, Administrative Services, and Job and Family Services will assemble at the EOC in Columbus to organize resources for local partners who request support.
