Dear John:
With Montanans staying home to stop the spread of COVID-19, it's crucial that they've got a home in which to stay.
That's why this week Governor Bullock issued a consumer protection Directive to stop all evictions, foreclosures, and disconnects for utilities like water, heat and internet service during the emergency.
Landlords cannot terminate a lease and banks cannot foreclose on a home during the outbreak.
The Directive also prohibits the suspension of utilities, including electricity, gas, water, telephone, or internet services, and prohibits late fees.
This is an incredibly important measure to protect workers and their families during this time of economic hardship, and to empower Montanans to follow the Governor's public health order to stay at home and reduce the spread of COVID-19.
We know Montanans are facing incredible challenges during this time. The directive does not mean that bills are free. But where someone cannot pay immediately because of a recent economic hardship, they won't lose their home or residence while the emergency is still happening.
If you have any questions, please review the full Directive online HERE ([link removed]) .
Thank you for sharing this important information with your friends, family, and neighbors.

These are unprecedented times. The Governor is working round-the-clock to address the needs of Montanans to make sure our state’s healthcare and economy are protected. I'm proud to be working with him.
Remember, the most important thing we can do to protect our friends and neighbors is to stay at home, wash our hands, and avoid all non-essential work or travel, where possible.
These are challenging times. But I know we will get through it. Together, we can stop the spread of COVID-19.
Sincerely,
-Raph
