Dear John,

I hope this email finds you and your loved ones in good health and spirits.

This past month has been chaotic and challenging as we all follow the COVID-19 pandemic. Every day we are inundated with news of new cases, deaths in our communities, and new guidelines and practices to keep us safe. It is all very overwhelming.

I want to acknowledge that you haven’t heard from us in quite some time. The truth is, this health crisis is exhausting for all of us. Decision fatigue seeps in as we decide if it is too risky to step out of the house for more food or toilet paper; parents are trying to balance getting anything done with children at home; the constant underlying concern and worry we all feel for our loved ones; the understanding that there is still an important election at the end of this year, with many state primaries left to happen.

All of this weighs heavy on our team at re:power and we made an intentional choice to cut ourselves a break. To give folks the time they need to get their homes in order, take care of their loved ones, to process through grief and anxiety (as best we can), and to recognize the reality that work looks different in this moment. The result of that is you didn’t hear from us right away as this pandemic began. But, we are here.

Over the next few weeks we will be surveying our partners, talking to our trainers, and working closely with our funders to identify the pressing needs of the movement. Using our expertise in virtual training, re:power will be ramping up our online offerings throughout the Spring and Summer. Our trainings will offer key skills-development for digital organizing, data strategy, coding for the movement and more.

Pivoting from in-person to online trainings is not something we take lightly. We are slowing down to dig into our curriculum, understand which pieces are relevant to folks today, and making sure that our training modules are adapted for the virtual space. Despite being physically distant, our online trainings will offer a unique experience that still manages to create the small-group connection we all enjoy during in-person trainings.

In the meantime, we are here for you and with you. In the time of great uncertainty, one thing is crystal clear to us at re:power—we will only get through this together.

More to come soon,
Karundi Williams
Executive Director
