Neighbors,
I hope you were able to spend some time with family and friends over the holiday break. The Twins Home Opener and the promise of 60 degrees are both welcome signs of spring!
Policy Bills Begin to Pass House
The legislature returned to the Capitol on Tuesday and the House began passing policy bill packages in major issue areas building on the work of our historically productive 2023 session and improving the lives of Minnesotans. The House passed two policy bills supporting our Departments of Military Affairs [ [link removed] ] and Veterans Affairs [ [link removed] ], which passed with unanimous support!
We also passed a higher education policy bill [ [link removed] ] that includes the clean energy sector in our Workforce Development Scholarship Program and expands support in higher education for students who have a disability. We also passed an early education policy bill [ [link removed] ] focused on strengthening our pre-kindergarten and school readiness programs. Additionally, we passed a transportation policy package [ [link removed] ] that improves road safety, adopts safer speed limit recommendations, shortens Driver Vehicle Services wait times, and includes child passenger safety and consumer protections.
Survey results
I am very appreciative of all who completed my legislative survey. Your responses reinforced what I knew about our Minnetonka and Eden Prairie communities; you are all pulling for the success of all Minnesotans, no matter "where" they live. Your responses show you care about educating our children, protecting our beautiful natural resources, making women?s health care available and accessible, treating workers fairly, building strong families, and more.
We have made incredible progress helping Minnesotans succeed, but we still have more work ahead. We invested in our childcare providers, which helps parents participate in the workforce, and we continue to work on innovative ways to educate our children. We have proposed solutions to the rising cost of healthcare and prescription drugs. And we are working on solutions to the complex issue of climate change, to protect our bountiful natural resources, and ensure our air and water are clean for the next generations.
Building on last session?s successes, we are working with residents, advocates, and partners to continue to better the lives of all Minnesotans, no matter where they live.
