Nuclear exploitation: how uranium mining harms communities webinar

There is still time to sign up for next week's webinar on the dangers of uranium mining, its place in the nuclear fuel cycle, and how the practice has devastating consequences on local communities.

As Britain, the US, and others push nuclear power as an answer to global energy security and the green transition, the demand for uranium to fuel these new reactors has shot up - and dormant mines are now prime locations for the expansion of uranium extraction.

One such mine recently reported on by Associated Press is Pinyon Plain in northern Arizona. Located on the edge of the Grand Canyon National Park and next to Native American land, attempts by local activists to get better state and federal oversight have gone largely ignored.

We are honoured to have one of these activists, Carletta Tilousi who served for years on the Havasupai Tribal Council, join us for this webinar, to share her insights and experiences of her tribe's resistance to uranium mining.

  • Thursday, 11 April, 6:30-7:30pm
  • Online, register here

With guest speakers: Carletta Tilousi, from the Havasupai Tribal Council – guardians of the Grand Canyon; Bruno Chareyron, Scientific Advisor at CRIIRAD (Commission for Independent Research and Information about RADiation); Linda Pentz Gunter, Beyond Nuclear. Chaired by Kate Hudson, CND General Secretary.

Stop arming Israel: Join local and regional actions on Saturday, 13 April

Pressure is growing on the British government to publish its legal advice on Israel's prosecution of its war in Gaza, with Tory peers, the Mayor of London, and the Scottish Labour leader among those now calling for an immediate ban on arms sales to Israel.

This is something CND has been demanding for months and you can help add to this pressure by using our lobby tool to write to your MP - urging them to back Early Day Motion 177 on suspending arms sales to Israel.

A range of demonstrations and actions demanding an arms embargo are being planned for next Saturday, 13 April - with a march taking place in London. Assembly point and route details TBC. Keep an eye on our events page for the latest information.

Local actions are also taking place this weekend, 6-7 April. Find one near you here
