Once again, I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who chipped in ahead of last Sunday’s FEC fundraising deadline. This was a big show of strength that we needed headed into the grueling final months of our campaign to hold IL-17 and flip Congress blue.
That’s the good news.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have much time to celebrate. We got word that the Congressional Leadership Fund -- Mike Johnson’s super PAC -- has once again named us as one of their top targets, and have just pledged millions for television attacks against us.
After working so hard, I know it can be a little disheartening to see a super PAC just airdrop millions into key races like this, but I’d still chalk this up as a positive development. Here’s why:
It means Johnson and company don’t think my opponent Joe McGraw is a strong enough candidate to win this race on his own.
Still, we can’t take these attacks lying down. We’ve worked too hard to let a dark-money super PAC determine the outcome of this race.
Our campaign has already launched our outreach program to turn out as many Democrats and undecided voters as possible. We’re also preparing mailers, digital ads, and TV buys to counter these negative attacks, but we need to move quickly:
