Literacy Grants Available
|
With nearly 1 in 5 Hoosier third graders struggling to read at their grade level, Indiana is working to improve literacy instruction to ensure at least 95% of students can read proficiently by 2027.
One step the state has taken to address reading proficiency is allowing eligible teachers to earn a literacy endorsement by enrolling in a free professional development course.
Created by a law I supported, this course offers teachers tools and necessary training to provide science of reading instruction in the classroom. Teachers can also receive up to $1,200 for completing the course.
This year, Senate Republicans also prioritized literacy through a new law that creates a comprehensive plan to help students achieve reading proficiency by addressing curriculum, assessment, additional remediation and, as a last resort, retention.
Literacy is a fundamental skill that helps set our children up for successful futures. As your state senator, I was proud to support these initiatives and will continue to find ways to ensure students learn to read.
