This is The Drug Report’s Friday Fact report - 44.38% of Past-Year Marijuana Users Aged 12-17 in 2022 Met the Criteria for Cannabis Use Disorder

The percentage of past-year marijuana users between the ages of 12 and 17 that had cannabis use disorder in 2022 was calculated using the data on Table 1.2A and Table 5.1A from the 2022 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH)

 

Key Highlights (For Americans Aged 12-17) 

  • Marijuana:  

    • Past-Year Users with Cannabis Use Disorder: 1,308,000.

    • Past-Year Marijuana Users: 2,947,000 Users. 

    • The Cannabis Use Disorder rate was 44.38%. 


The statistics are clear: more teenagers are using marijuana, and a concerning proportion of them are developing cannabis use disorder. This trend will likely worsen as the marijuana industry produces ever-stronger products that appeal to minors.
