Let's get Planning serious about rezoning?

As some of you know, San Francisco is currently undergoing a state-mandated rezoning as part of its Housing Element. The city needs to adopt a rezoning map that will result in the construction of ?roughly 36,000 new homes by 2031.?

NIMBYs have been showing up?in full force to oppose any rezoning and fear mongering about tall buildings, while our Supervisors have chosen to spend their time downzoning to protect waterfront views instead of fixing our housing shortage.?

YIMBY leads Salim and David have been watching this rezoning process, and analyzed that Planning is trying to get away with a map that will not even build 1/4th the housing that the state requires. They wrote an op-ed in the Chronicle?today, and even built a tool so you can help Planning build a realistic re-zoning plan: http://rezonesf.org?

Thankfully, Mayor Breed yesterday?directed the Planning Department to expand the rezoning by adding significantly more 6-8 story apartments instead of tall buildings on a few streets, and removing density limits. We welcome the Mayor's new rezoning proposal and our map above shows what it could look like.

Will you take a minute to tell Planning to implement this expanded rezoning proposal? Even better, create your own compliant map and attach it to the letter. And don't forget to share the letter with a few friends.

Exclusive event for SF YIMBY members with Mayor Breed

We're starting a series of conversations with the leading candidates for Mayor to ask them about their housing policies. The first one features London Breed, who has led the charge for housing abundance in San Francisco as Mayor since 2018. What will her housing priorities be if re-elected? Mayor Breed will join us on Wednesday, April 10, starting around 6 pm at our regularly scheduled monthly meeting.?
