The Biden Administration’s climate deal will funnel billions of dollars into programs designed to speed up the transition to clean energy. This act is a huge win in our fight to stop climate change; not only is it accelerating progress to meet America’s climate goals, but it’s also ensuring a clean energy future.
The Inflation Reduction Act’s climate provisions are expected to cut carbon emissions by nearly 40 percent by 2030, and reach net-zero emissions by no later than 2050. These goals are incentivised by offering credits to families who buy new or used electric vehicles, taxing energy producers after they produce a certain amount of methane gas, and investing nearly $60 billion in clean energy manufacturing.
While we’re proud to witness the biggest investment in fighting against climate change, there’s still more work to be done. Notably, Democrats are still fighting to pass the Green New Deal which would officially declare a climate emergency and take more urgent action to combat the climate crisis.
