Georgia’s state legislative session wrapped last week, and the Fair Fight Action community was in full mobilization mode. You showed up in incredible force, using your voices to speak out against anti-voter legislation, and we are so grateful.
Unfortunately, the MAGA-led legislature ended up pushing through bills targeting voters, immigrants, and our public schools. From enacting conspiracy-fueled voting restrictions to defunding our public schools, they've made their agenda crystal clear.
House Bill 976 and some provisions of Senate Bill 221 merged with SB 189 to form an omnibus proposal crafted to disenfranchise Black and brown voters, seniors, students, rural voters, and Georgia's unhoused population. This bill complicates the voting process, overburdens election staff, and elevates the power of election deniers. All in all, it’s a clear strike against democracy, but we’re not done fighting back.
The extreme legislation coming out of this year’s legislative session are not just bills; they're blatant attempts to reshape Georgia by marginalizing the voices and rights of its people.
But we have strength in numbers, and together we can keep pushing back to protect equal access to the ballot box.
Now that SB 189 and other outrageous bills have passed the legislature, we have to redouble our efforts to protect the freedom to vote. Chip in now to continue to fight back against MAGA attacks on our voting rights.
This work is powered by your support — thank you.
