To feel confident, empowered, and in a community of people who understand me is something I’ve looked for. ✊And I found that political home here with The Squad.
Growing up, there was always a lot of fear and uncertainty as a member of a mixed status family. I felt so much anxiety not knowing if today will be the day I get the call that my parents have been detained by ICE. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I joined The Squad and found a safe space to link up with like minded people ready to dream big and win protections for our families.
As a U.S. citizen, I know the privilege I have and why it’s vital for me to use my voice to speak out and fight for my family - because if we don’t, who will?? 💪It gives me so much hope that in The Squad, there are people all over the country who are fired up to protect themselves, their families, and their local communities like me.
Hearing stories of other Squad members helped me see the beauty and strength that lies in our community and brought me in and drove me to action. So now, I’m opening up to share my story with you in the hopes that you feel that spark I felt, and you join us.
