Hi John,
Donald Trump is a bully and a liar, and that puts him in some awful company.
Back in the 1950s, Senator Joseph McCarthy followed what we’d now call the Trump playbook to insult, smear, and destroy his political enemies. For years, he launched reckless attack after reckless attack, and no one stood up to stop him.
Until someone did — a lawyer named Joseph Welch. When McCarthy started bullying one of Welch’s much younger colleagues, Welch had enough. And he ended McCarthy’s political career with a single question:
Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness… Have you no sense of decency?
We all know about Donald Trump’s cruelty and recklessness — he shows them off constantly, like they’re something to be proud of. But when the time comes to stand up and say “enough,” far-right MAGA congressmen like my opponent John Carter do the opposite. They’re right there with Trump, throwing another tiki torch on the fire Trump’s setting to our institutions, norms, and values.
That’s not how my parents raised me. They taught me to stand up for my values — values like decency, but also honesty, integrity, humility, respect, and accountability. And I’ve taught the same thing to my sons. Somewhere along the way, John Carter lost sight of those values.
Where’s the honesty in lying that the 2020 election was stolen?
Where’s the integrity in voting to toss out those election results?
Where’s the humility in dismissing volumes of scientific evidence on climate change as a media hoax?
Where’s the respect in telling women they can’t make their own healthcare decisions?
Where’s the accountability in missing vote after vote after vote after vote, more than 100 times last session alone?
And above all — when John Carter has supported Trump through impeachments, an insurrection, indictments, and intimidation — one has to ask: Mr. Carter, have you no sense of decency?
I’m running to replace John Carter because I have a sense of decency, and I know Texas voters do too. Will you help me make decency great again?
Whatever you can contribute today will go a long way in helping me defeat Trump’s ally John Carter in November. With your support, we can stop the cruelty and recklessness that’s dominated Washington for much too long.
