Review of progress on county's Critical Areas Ordinance update at April 10 community meeting

?

Join the next meeting of the _Kingston Community Advisory Council [ [link removed] ]_ from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at the Village Green Community Center, _26159 Dulay Road NE [ [link removed] ]_, for an overview of Kitsap County?s Critical Areas Ordinance update. There is a virtual meeting option via Zoom. The meeting agenda and Zoom link are posted at kcowa.us/KingstonCAC [ [link removed] ].

Critical areas are considered land with natural features that need to be protected such as wetlands, aquifers, streams and other wildlife habitat, and geologically hazardous or frequently flooded areas. Kathlene Barnhart, senior planner of the Department of Community Development, will give the presentation and there will be time for questions. The CAO was last reviewed in 2017 and is being updated in conjunction with the county's _2024 Comprehensive Plan Update [ [link removed] ]_, with adoption planned in September 2024.

A preliminary draft of the CAO is available for public review, including the code change matrix and proposed amendments. The initial public comment period is open and runs through *April 26*. The draft then goes to the Kitsap County Planning Commission, which will hold a public hearing, tentatively scheduled for May 21. Written testimony may be provided until that date. Details, including an online form to submit comments, are at kcowa.us/cao [ [link removed] ].

In addition to the CAO update, the KCAC will discuss transportation project priorities including a submission to the county?s Transportation Improvement Program project list. Council members also share announcements about local events and happenings. KCAC meetings are a great way to stay up to date on what's happening and find out how to get involved to help improve the community
