Hey John, we’re Ranaisha and Keoni, two of Tekesha Martinez’s daughters.
If you’d told us when we were little that one day, we’d be asking you to
donate toward our mom’s run for Congress… we don’t know
what we’d say. We might be speechless for a minute – only because we know how many barriers she’s overcome to get where she is today.
But we’ve always known that if anybody could beat the odds, it’s our mom.
Ranaisha is Mom’s oldest. When she was born, she and Mom were both wards of the state – the kind of family that gets counted out every time. But Mom always said it was our responsibility to change the trajectory for everybody who came behind us. She taught us how to build our own power.
Now, we’re raising our families with those same values. We’re so proud to emulate our Mom, especially
as moms ourselves (well, Keoni is due with her first in just a few weeks!).
We are so proud of the way our mom is building a MOVEMENT not just for us, but for our entire community. A movement for good jobs, for healthcare access, for public safety and community empowerment.
That’s why it’s so important to have leaders like our mom in positions of power. We need a Congress full of Tekesha Martinezes, who know when to get loud for justice and when to put your head down and win it behind the scenes. Who know there’s power in being of service, but will never deny the power of their own
leadership, too.
