It’s no secret that our immigration system is broken and desperately in need of bipartisan legislation to fix it.

That’s exactly why President Biden and a bipartisan group of Senators led by Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) led the way to produce a very strong common sense bill to address migrant crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border.

So-called “conservatives,” led by the likes of Jim Jordan, killed the bill only days after demanding new border security provisions in budget negotiations.

Why did they do this? Because Donald Trump said the quiet part out loud: without a sense of crisis at the border, Republicans won’t be able to use immigration as a campaign issue to help Trump.

But it is clear that do-nothing Republicans like Jim Jordan, who has himself never passed a single bill into law, also have nothing to offer Americans apart from venomous hatred and xenophobia, rallying the MAGA faithful to scream about the crisis they themselves are responsible for creating.

Now, this is all we can expect from Jordan and the “Freedom” Caucus extremists: unabashed fearmongering. After a few migrants entered a school in a New Mexico border town, causing no harm and posing no threat, nutty MAGA extremists have declared that every parent with kids in school anywhere in the country are somehow at grave risk:

Jim Jordan and his allies want you to live in fear—fear of migrants, fear of crime, fear of Joe Biden, fear of women exercising their rights and freedoms. They want Americans afraid of just about everything they don’t like, and then to give them power so they can exert even more control over our lives. 

We can’t let them win. They want nothing more than to control our bodies, our freedoms, and to make us conform to a repulsive and abhorrent social agenda.
