Union Brothers & Sisters,

Tax Day is fast approaching, and we wanted to make sure you're aware of an exciting opportunity for Arizona residents. The Biden administration launched a new tax filing service called Direct File in 2024, allowing eligible taxpayers to file their taxes online directly with the IRS—for free. It is important to act quickly, as filing season ends on April 15th.

As residents of Arizona, we are among the lucky few in 12 states eligible for the pilot program this year, which includes Arizona, California, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming.

Direct File offers convenient features such as English and Spanish language options, compatibility with mobile devices, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers, as well as direct and dedicated customer support from the IRS.

People can use Direct File if they meet this year’s eligibility requirements. The following tax situations are supported:

Types of Income W2 wage income; Social Security; Unemployment; Interest of $1,500 or less
Types of Credits Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for Other Dependents
Types of Deductions Standard Deduction, Student Loan Interest, and Educator Expenses

Direct File is a great new way to save working families money. We hope you’ll check it out and tell your friends and family!

In Solidarity,
