In early March, Bechtel and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention [announced a new, multiyear partnership]([link removed]) specifically dedicated to help prevent suicide in the construction community.

Within the U.S., construction has one of the highest suicide rates of any profession. According to the CDC and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of suicides in the industry is nearly five times higher than the number of lives lost in jobsite safety incidents.

In an unprecedented effort to address this crisis, Bechtel made a $7-million, five-year commitment to its partnership with AFSP –– the largest-ever pledge received by AFSP and the largest single donation ever made by the Bechtel Group Foundation.

In case you missed the official partnership launch on March 5, you can still tune in by watching the [full event recording]([link removed]). Participants in the panel discussion included Brendan Bechtel, chairman and CEO, Bechtel Corporation; Sean McGarvey, President, North America’s Building Trades Unions; Ylan Mui, Managing Director at PENTA Strategies; and AFSP's own CEO and CMO, Bob Gebbia and Dr. Christine Yu Moutier.

Educating ourselves is only the first step, but it's an important one –– we encourage you to raise awareness about this crucial topic by watching the event recording and sharing it with your community. It will help more than you know.
