John, our National #OutToWin Day panel is just ending! Did you catch it on Facebook Live? Don't worry if you missed it - you can still watch the full panel talk about how to get started running for office as an openly LGBTQ candidate. A big thank you to our amazing panelists, U.S. Congresswoman Sharice Davids, Maryland state Delegate Gabriel Acevero and Fairfax County School Board Member Karl Frisch for joining us! Today is National Out to Win Day, Victory Institute's annual event encouraging openly LGBTQ people to run for public office and achieve equitable representation at all levels of government. We celebrate on April 2nd to honor the anniversary of Kathy Kozachenko’s election to the Ann Arbor, Michigan City Council, the first time an openly LGBTQ person was elected in the United States, if not the world. We're so excited to honor Kathy and all our historic LGBTQ leaders. Want to learn a little more about Kathy's historic election? Check out NBC Out's article here! Inspired by our panelists? Take the pledge to run at outtowin.org! We also wanted to share two exciting op-eds that have already been published. We partnered with U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin to draft and place the op-ed "Building an L.G.B.T.Q. Political Pipeline" in The New York Times. You can read it here. Mayor Annise Parker's op-ed, "Kathy Kozachenko Proved It in '74—America Will Embrace Out Candidates" was published yesterday in The Advocate. You can read it here. Thanks again for your support, LGBTQ Victory Institute |
