Dear john,
During my texting town hall last week, I heard from so many of you that are concerned about the continuation of the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). This critical program has provided affordable broadband and massive economic relief for millions of American families.
I was proud to have voted for this program in 2021 as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Since then, over 23 million households have enrolled in this program to save money on internet services, including over 81k households in El Paso.
But unfortunately the program runs out of funding after May 2024. In a survey sent out by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to ACP enrollees, more than three-quarters (77%) of the respondents say losing their ACP benefit would disrupt their internet service by making them change their plan or drop internet service entirely.
I know how important it is for everyone to have access to broadband. That's why I'm proud to be a cosponsor of H.R.6929, the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act of 2024, that would allocate $7 billion towards the ACP. This bill has wide bipartisan, bicameral support, a rarity in Congress these days, so I'm hopeful my Republican colleagues in the House will bring it to a vote.
