Today is National School Library Day, folks. As a mom of two and longtime education advocate, I know the enormous value school libraries – and the librarians who care for them – add to a child’s education.

If you’d told me 20 years ago that school libraries would become culture war battlegrounds, I wouldn’t have believed you.

I’d have told you that school libraries are cherished places, giving kids the freedom to expand their imaginations and understand the complex world around them.

Sadly, all of that is in jeopardy because far-right extremists are waging a full-scale war on libraries. They’re purging entire genres of books – anything that doesn’t conform to their radical worldview gets tossed aside. They’re turning school libraries into MAGA-approved ideological boot camps for kids.

This is our moment to stand up for education, learning, and free expression. Will you sign my petition and demand Extreme Republicans keep their culture wars out of our kids’ libraries?
