Millions of Americans cannot find safe, affordable housing or are in danger of being priced out of their homes. It’s time for us to take action: we’ve teamed up with Daily Kos to petition Congress to address housing affordability. Join us and sign on now.
What’s causing this crisis? It’s pretty simple: a huge discrepancy between supply and demand. More people need affordable housing, but less affordable housing is being created. Rent is absolutely skyrocketing and many young Americans have totally given up on the dream of owning a home.
There are possible solutions, though. Switching to prioritizing “modular building” could significantly reduce construction time and costs, allowing us to quickly increase the number of available affordable housing units. Shifting our urban planning strategies and regulations to be more adaptive can foster more affordable housing, infrastructure, and sustainability.
We should also explore the possibility of a universal rental assistance program, which would ensure low-income families spend no more than 30% of their income on housing. Universal housing vouchers could tackle the affordability issue and allow millions of Americans stable, secure, and safe housing without the threat of astronomical prices.
Together, we have to advocate for these policies to be researched. Affordable housing development is essential to the health of our communities and economies.
Sign the petition to Congress: We need a solution to the housing crisis!
Thanks for taking action,
Democratic Values
