UPDATE: Judge Merchan, who is presiding over Trump’s hush money trial, just REJECTED Trump's desperate attempt to delay the trial – and he'll face justice in court on April 15th. [1]
If you haven't already, sign our petition to thank the public servants working on this case for holding Trump accountable – and urge them to stay firm against Trump's intimidation and lies.
For more information on this case, and the role Common Cause played in exposing Trump's wrongdoing, see my email below from earlier this week.
John, Donald Trump is furious that he’s finally facing accountability for his hush money payment to Stormy Daniels (which Common Cause exposed to be likely illegal back in 2018).
In a common pattern for Trump, he’s going all out to intimidate anyone who tries to enforce the law against him. He mercilessly smeared the public servants involved in this case – and their families – and is now under an expanded gag order to stop these dangerous attacks. [2]
I’m glad to see the judge in this case hold firm to the rule of law – but we must immediately prepare for yet another onslaught of disinformation and even potential threats from Trump’s backers who believe the rules don’t apply to him. I hope we can count on you to speak up.
Add Your Name: Thank the public servants working on this case for holding Trump accountable – and urge them to hold firm against intimidation and disinformation from Trump and his supporters.
In 2018, Common Cause filed campaign finance complaints with the Department of Justice and the Federal Election Commission urging them to investigate the $130,000 paid to Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about her relationship with Donald Trump so that the scandal would not influence the 2016 presidential election. [3]
During the investigation that followed, Trump’s personal lawyer and “fixer,” Michael Cohen, admitted to paying off Daniels on Donald Trump’s behalf – ultimately receiving a sentence of three years in federal prison and a $50,000 fine for multiple charges.
And last year, a Manhattan grand jury found probable cause to indict Trump himself for keeping the American people in the dark about payments that should have been disclosed under the law.
This case has been six long years in the making. Voters deserve an answer – and we can’t allow Trump to delay and bully his way out of accountability any longer.
Sign the petition to show your support for holding Trump accountable – and to encourage the brave civil servants working on this case to hold firm against extreme right-wing disinformation.
I’m glad to have you with us on the side of truth and transparency.
Thanks for all you do,
