Congressional District Democratic Conventions & State Democratic Convention [[link removed]]: The March 5th Democratic Presidential Primary was the first step in Virginia Democrats march to the Democratic National Convention [[link removed]] scheduled for the week of August 19 at Chicago's McCormick Place.
Democrats who would like to participate at some level in this important process should pre-file to be a state and congressional district delegate or alternate by 5:00 PM, Saturday, April 13 using the 2024 State Delegate and Alternate Filing Form [[link removed]]. Fairfax County Democratic Committee will conduct a caucus for the selection of delegates to the 2024 state and congressional district conventions on Saturday, April 20 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM; the location(s) are to be determined. The caucus may be canceled by FCDC if there is no contested caucus.
Tuesday, April 9 at 6:30 PM: REPRO Rising Virginia [[link removed]] is hosting a special screening of Aftershock [[link removed]]. This documentary sheds light on the alarming statistics of Black maternal mortality [[link removed]] and the profound impact it has on Black families. Aftershock puts a spotlight on the crisis of Black maternal deaths in the United States by focusing on the cases of two New York City mothers, Shamony Gibson [[link removed]] and Amber Isaac [[link removed]], who died during childbirth-related complications in recent years and how their deaths sparked their bereaved families to become activists on this issue. This is a FREE event at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Fairfax [[link removed]]. Reservations requested [[link removed]].

How the Legislative Sausage Is Made On Friday, we will look at what really happens in Richmond during the General Assembly. Delegates Sam Rasoul and Jackie Glass will explain how the process works in theory and in practice. They will also share how citizens play a vital role in this process even though it may not appear that way from the outside. And, finally, they will explain how the legislative process extends over several sessions, not just one. Freshman Delegate Josh Thomas will share his experience with data center legislation. Michael Pope, journalist and host of Pod Virginia, will share stories about what happens behind the scenes as issues make their way through the legislative process.
