This matching gift offer could not come at a more meaningful time – because as this Earth Month kicks into high gear, we're preparing to ramp up some of our most urgent fights for the planet and its people. We need your support right now to strengthen critical work including:
Shutting down more pollution-spewing coal plants across the U.S. Just last week we celebrated a major victory in New England when we announced the retirement of the region's last few remaining coal-fired power plants. But more coal plants around the country are still dumping climate-wrecking pollution into the air and sickening thousands of vulnerable kids and older adults. We're aiming to shut down 15 more plants before the end of 2024, but many of them are located in communities where local lawmakers have cozied up to the fossil fuel industry, which means we need to double down on our efforts to shut them down permanently.
Protecting priceless mature and old growth forests from destruction. We pushed the Biden administration last year to reinstate essential safeguards in Alaska's Tongass National Forest, ensuring one of our country's last remaining old growth forests will be protected from development. But millions of acres more are still at grave risk – like Giant Sequoia National Monument, where a pair of proposed logging projects threaten the ancient sequoia groves and endangered animals who depend on them. We're fighting in court to save these magnificent trees from devastation, and we need your grassroots support to win.
Defending endangered species from attacks on critical protections for wildlife. Anti-wildlife members of Congress are trying to force through legislation that would slash funding and undermine the Endangered Species Act even as habitat destruction, climate change, and other threats push countless endangered species closer to the brink of extinction. The Sierra Club is fighting back to ensure these protections remain for endangered wildlife we cherish.
At the Sierra Club, every day is Earth Day as we fight to protect the health and diversity of our wildlife, our wild lands, and our communities – and it's only possible thanks to you, Friend. I'm deeply grateful to know you're a dedicated part of this community as we work together for a cleaner, healthier, and safer future for all.
