Hi John,
The clock is ticking with just one day left until the extended budget deadline! It's crucial that we keep the pressure on our state legislators to secure essential funding for New York's child care system.
The enacted budget must include no less than $500 million in a permanent fund for the child care workforce. Child care work is one of the lowest paid professions in the United States and, in New York, its educators - 96 per cent women, the majority of whom are women of color - earn less than 96 per cent of occupations statewide. This permanent funding will be vital for the long term well-being of all New Yorkers. Research tells us that by doing the right thing up front – investing in the future of our children – we save billions in the future.
We need state leadership to ensure that child care educators are able to make a living, because until we do, families will continue to struggle to find care that meets their needs.
