Dear John,

What if I told you that Oregon ranks in the bottom of Western states for conservation efforts, as seen in the new report from our partners at Center for Western Priorities? Check out the report here. [westernpriorities.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/2024_ConservationGridlock.pdf] The Owyhee Canyonlands presents Oregon with an incredible opportunity to change this, because it's the largest conservation opportunity in the American West.

In a couple weeks, our coalition partners will be heading to D.C. to deliver petitions to protect the Owyhee Canyonlands. Now is a critical time for us - we need your voice to protect the Owyhee Canyonlands as a National Monument. Will you take a stand for the Owyhee?  [secure.everyaction.com/LNjk58U-WUy9p4Be-2dL7g2]

Before stepping into my role at OLCV this February, I had never heard of the Owyhee Canyonlands. Through working at OLCV, I’ve learned a lot about this magical place and seen countless photos of the mesmerizing canyons and rock formations. From the unique plant and wildlife that live there, to the tribal sacred sites and stargazing, the Owyhee Canyonlands have something beautiful for everyone to appreciate. With all that I now know about the Owyhee, it has become the place I would like to visit most.

The Owyhee Canyonlands is one of the most remote places in Oregon, which means it’s not on many people’s radar, just as it wasn’t previously for me. This was once its benefit. Now, unfortunately, the remoteness of the Owyhee Canyonlands no longer protects it. Mining and oil and gas development are encroaching, posing more threats in addition to unmanaged tourism and wildfires.

This is the reason why we need to protect the Owyhee Canyonlands as a National Monument before it is too late. You don’t need to know much about the Owyhee or have been there to recognize how significant and necessary it is for these canyonlands to become a National Monument. Our time to act for the Owyhee Canyonlands is now. [secure.everyaction.com/LNjk58U-WUy9p4Be-2dL7g2]

I hope we can protect the Owyhee before I get the chance to visit it - before it has changed too much.

It only takes a moment to add your name and your voice to the list of countless others who want to save the beauty and magic of the Owyhee. With just that one moment, we can protect the Owyhee for generations. Will you sign our petition to let President Biden know we cannot lose this special place? Thank you for your voice.

Sincerely,
Sarah Kline
