Thanks to council carers and staff supporting our elderly & vulnerable and do your bit by staying at home!

*"A message from City Council Deputy Leader Cllr Sally Longford:"*

*Clap for Nottinghams Carers *

Council house lit up blue

At 8pm tonight we will once again clap for our carers, when many people will rightly applaud our wonderful NHS workers. I would urge people to also clap for those amazing council staff over 1,000 of them - who are also providing critical frontline care to more than 7,300 elderly and vulnerable residents every day. It is truly vital to support those who need it most and to protect our NHS at this critical time. Our city and our citizens are relying on their skills, kindness and compassion every day and especially in this most difficult of times. They all deserve our recognition and thanks for everything they do*.*

*City Council food parcel operation swings into action *

I also want to say a huge thank you for the incredible efforts of council staff who are running a brand new service from scratch, distributing food parcels to vulnerable people isolating in their homes in Nottingham with no other means of support. This involves staff from across the council becoming call centre staff, either at home or in one of our buildings, to take calls about the service, and others putting food parcels together at a leisure centre, while other staff deliver to peoples homes. The packages, including different food options, are free for those in the shielding category or at a small price to others just to cover food costs.

I would ask that before contacting the Customer Hub people consider the level of support they need so we can save our resources for those most in need

*Stay Home to Save Lives do your bit!*

Stay home graphic

And lastly it sounds simple but Staying Home does Save Lives. Help all our local heroes working hard on the frontline by staying at home as much as you can, they really appreciate the citys efforts here! It can be hard to know what we can and cant do, Government guidelines state:

* Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
* If you go out, stay two metres (6ft) away from other people at all times
* Wash your hands as soon as you get home
* Do not meet others, even friends or family. You can spread the virus even if you dont have symptoms

So tonight lets stand on our doors steps and give a round of applause to all the carers in Nottingham. If you are on social media tag in the My Nottingham channels @MyNottingham on Twitter [ [link removed] ] and MyNottingham on Facebook [ [link removed] ] so we can celebrate our heroes with you.
