How No Labels and our allies are carrying on the legacy of Sen. Joe Lieberman

Hi John,

The No Labels movement and the entire nation lost a giant last week with the unexpected passing of our National Chair, Senator Joe Lieberman. Over a 24-year career in the Senate, Lieberman set the standard for decency, integrity, and bipartisanship, earning the enduring respect of Americans across the political spectrum

A host of public servants and other leaders attended Lieberman’s funeral, including his one-time presidential running mate, former Vice President Al Gore, who reflected on the values Lieberman embodied and the challenges our country is living through today.

Speaking in memory of Lieberman, Gore noted “We are, all of us here, are now living through a time when that kind of willingness to disagree without disrespect, to debate without seeking to destroy, has become, for many, harder to find. Some say that, as a nation, we have not experienced anything like our current civic rancor since the years leading up to the Civil War.”

Today, the deck is far too often stacked against the Liebermans of the world, those who want to build bridges, not burn them. No Labels is fortunate to have close allies and friends in Congress who carry on the credo of comity and compromise that Sen. Lieberman embodied. Members like Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick, Josh Gottheimer, and their fellow Problem Solvers in the House. And members like Sens. Susan Collins, Bill Cassidy, and other Senators committed to the bipartisan, bicameral solutions that move our country forward.

These leaders are fighting a courageous battle against the partisanship that has gripped our politics and has left us unable to respond to some of the most pressing challenges facing the nation, from our soaring debt and deficit to our insecure border and the security threats we face in Europe, the Middle East, and elsewhere.

But they can’t do it alone.

No Labels is committed to ensuring that every member of Congress who follows in the footsteps of Sen. Lieberman has the support of our movement and of the commonsense majority as a whole.

With your support, we know we can continue to build a coalition of like-minded Republicans, Democrats, and independents in Congress who will put country over party and do the right thing for the commonsense majority.

We can think of no better way to honor the legacy of Sen. Lieberman than to ensure the legacy of bipartisanship he fought to establish can continue for years to come.
