An ancient forest and millennia of history

----------

Dear John,

When you visit ‘O Rew, you can see what makes this place so special – surrounded by the lush forests of Redwood National and State Parks, with a fresh sense of healing and hope in the air as we continue our work with the Yurok Tribe to restore this former mill site.

Last month, we shared the historic news of a landmark agreement that outlines our plan to transfer ownership of ‘O Rew back to its original stewards, the Yurok Tribe. This is a first step toward the creation of ‘O Rew Redwoods Gateway [[link removed]] , an exciting new destination to include hiking trails, interpretive exhibits, and direct access to the spectacular groves of Redwood National and State Parks.

Today, I invite you to join in helping to raise the funds we need to transform this site into a world-class, Indigenous-owned recreational gateway [[link removed]] . With $7 million in support already identified, we need $2 million in additional funding to get us over the finish line.

Can I count on you to help the League make this exciting vision a reality? [[link removed]]

New accessible trails including a wetland trail, a forest loop trail that is also a segment of the California Coastal Trail, and trail connections to the beautiful old-growth redwoods of Lady Bird Johnson Grove.

Interpretive exhibits that engage visitors in learning about the site restoration, redwood ecosystems, and the living culture of the Yurok people.

Robust visitor amenities where the Yurok Tribe can welcome the public to explore the majesty of the redwood forest and their ancestral lands.

Your contribution is a direct investment in the revival of this beautiful site that holds so much significance – ecologically and culturally.

This project is a momentous one – years in the making. We have plenty of meaningful work to do before the final transfer of the property in 2026. But I am filled with hope and excitement, knowing that in the near future, forest lovers like you from across the state – and the world – can experience the significance of ‘O Rew and Yurok culture in the redwoods first-hand .

Thank you for helping us revive and restore this remarkable site.

Warmly,

Sam Hodder, President and CEO
